Wondering what everyones been up to? I haven’t been on pool 4 of the Mississippi River since the August Walleye Searchers Bring A Friend Tournmament with my grandaughter on August 27th. A back flare up kept me off the water for two weeks but have been spending the rest of the time down at Lake Zumbro catchin bullgills, crappies and whitebass [strippers alot of people call them]. The hot bite has been for really nice big bluegills so they have had my attention lately. Very hard to beat the feeling of a bullgill on a light St. Croix rod that is really bent over nicely. 
Those fish sure like to fight. Reminds you of a smallie on the end of your line. The lake also has some nice smallies and largemouth bass too. Just ask Eric Ronningen [ERonningen on the site] the next time you see him on the lake and he’ll tell you how good the bass fishery is there. Eric is a really good bass guy who knows his stuff. 
My hunting season is a season of ”hunting for fish” as I no longer hunt for animals/birds, just hunt fish. October will see me back on the Mississippi River chasing walleyes along with some Lake Zumbro fishing too. Lake Zumbro is just too close to home to not fish there and its been a good year of fishing there too. The bass bite should turn on in October too the bass guys have been saying.
