HOF … The Good And The Bad

On 9/16 I was taking my wife, Jeanne, out to catch a few panfish on Lake Zumbro. I figured I needed all the help I could get to outfish her this time, so we stopped into HOF on the way out. Mike fixed me up with some of those mini-mites & waxies, so I was hopeful that I could finally outfish Jeanne.

The plan was to fish with a hook & crawler on one rod and mini mite & waxies on the other rod. In the first hour Jeanne’s hook & crawler just kicked butt over my mini-mite & waxie. But I said I was going to stick with the mini-mite all day regardless of how bad it was. After about an hour the mini-mite started catching all the bigger fish so much that we put identical mini-mites on both rods. But one mini-mite had a hunk of crawler and the other had a waxie on it. As far as numbers and size go the mini-mite & waxie out produced the mini-mite & crawler, but not by much.

    HOF Good News:

Mike did fix us up with a hot presentation that caught about a 100 fish and produced some very large 9” sunfish. We only kept enough for a family fish fry. And I finally did catch more of the bigger fish than Jeanne. Here is a picture of Jeanne with an 8” sunfish that engulfed the tiny mini-mite jig.

    HOF Bad News Part 1:
    1. The presentation Mike set us up with also catches junk fish. You never told me how to keep those pesky critters away.

    HOF Bad News Parts 2 & 3:
    2. Just look at the size of that junk fish’s mouth eating that tiny HOF jig.

    3. Also the plastic on those HOF jigs only last for about 50 fish before they self-destruct. Are they guaranteed, or do I have to buy a new plastic tail every 50 fish?

Nice post Dave! Good picts too!

I was going to ask about “the ugly”…but I ‘spose Mike had to work…

Too bad we can’t get a picture of a “mity mite” up here…I don’t believe I’ve ever see one?

    Dave,

The name of that bass is Bertha. Isn’t she fun! Honestly, she was following my boat around all day Wednesday and we finally decided to name her. Those poor bass guys are gonna probably drool….

Glad you got into the fish!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Ohhhh, was that a bass? Maybe I should have kept her? Do they taste good? Anyway, Bertha is back and happily swimming around looking for tiny HOF jigs. She also followed my boat around this last Wed morning but I never saw her swimming around today. I am glad you named her.
