Just out of curiosity is there an official name for this lake? Even in the MN 2005 fishing regulations I saw it named both ways. Some maps have ”Zumbro Lake” but most people on this board call it “Lake Zumbro”.

I believe the DNR does refer to it “officially” as Zumbro Lake. Both the Sheriff Department and Olmsted County websites refer to it as Lake Zumbro. In the 45+ years that I’ve been fishing there, I have always heard it called Lake Zumbro. Anyone else have any ideas or information about this?
    It’s a great fishery regardless!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

What about Lake Shady? Or, as some prefer to call it, “Lake ShXtty”?

mat03z, I was just kidding. I grew up 15 miles from the lake and have some very fond memories of it.

I too have seen it both ways. But most call it Lake Zumbro. I hope [Mike] that your info from the sherriff dept. isn’t from getting in trouble out there as a kid, uhummmmm…… AND 45 years of fishin there sure gives your age away Bud.

    Thanks, Bill

Too much more and you would have been fishing the original channel only.
When did they dam it up, 1932 or 1942? Somewhere in there right?

The following info is taken from a copy of Mikes High School History notes: [ ] : On Nov. 7th 1919 The first water ran over the new hydro-electric dam. Sure glad Mikes a history nut and saved all his old notes that his wife was more than glad to share with me when I called and asked if he still had the old notes he would refer to once in awhile. Seriously though Eric, the date is correct I believe.

    Thanks, Bill

    Good Morning Mike!
