I decided to fish a couple spots from shore the last 2 afternoons.
Went to West Newton yesterday. The water level is about 18 inches below normal due to the draw-down of pool 5. The area is absolutely full of sunfish, but 95% are small.
Today I went to Gamehaven lake (the boyscout camp). Pretty much the same story as yesterday – lots of fish, but mostly small. I also caught a few bass and crappies.
All my fish came on mini-mite jigs (tried a variety of colors with no clear winner) tipped with a waxie. I used a float with the jig set anywhere from 2-4 ft.
It was still a lot of fun! Probably caught around 100+ fish each day! The fishing should just continue to get better as the water cools down – right up to ice time. There is still plenty of time to get out and catch some nice fish!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks Mike. Both places sound like the perfect places to take kids fishing at as LOTS of action and thats what kids want. They tend to be more excited about quanity than quality of size. Very hard to beat those Mini Mites when it comes to panfish. I’m assuming you have plenty of Mini Mites and waxies on hand!?!?
    Thanks, Bill

    Hey Bill,

Yes, we have lots of mini-mites and waxies in stock. It would be fun for kids and adults to get in on the action!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Yep, I stopped in after work tonight and Mike does have a bunch of Mini Mites. [had to make sure he didn’t put them all in his own tackle box ] They are really neat plastics and have a long tail that really moves with the slightest movement. A great fish attractor [the tail] and it causes fish to grab it. Work great without and with a waxie attached to the hook.
    Thanks, Bill
