I was out at Lake Zumbro tonight catching some gills and thought I’d find Brad Gravenhoff as I knew he was fishing the Tuesday Night Bass Tournament and I wanted to see his new bass rig. Here is Brad with a couple real nice bass.

Heres a pic of the boat. Very sharp boat Brad. I beleave his other bass boat is for sale. Hopefully Brad will see this and can clue us in on who his partner is in the pic [sorry didn’t get his name], What lures they caught fish on, and how much he wants for his other boat.

    Thanks, Bill

Well Brad, What you throwing? Was that your grandpa with you or somebody from a nursing home?

Acturally its a white color in the back of the hat that his partner was wearing and hes not that old. The sun was hitting us wrong and waves from another boat going by.

    Thanks, Bill

I’ll tell you what worked since Brad is too secretive. My partner and I used 1/2 oz. jigs and texas rigged brush hogs, tubes and a little topwater stuff later at night. Color is basic. The dirtier water closer to Fisherman’s Inn is better suited for darker colors naturally. Blacks and dark blues. The water cleans up as you go down lake and their I use more medium colors like watermelon green, etc. The real key out there for bass is to fish slow yet keep covering as much water as you can effectively. The boat wakes on busy days like that really affect were the bass position themselves in relation to the bank as well as the sun. Many good areas I typically like to fish had a mud line out 4 feet from the bank due to boat wake which I do not prefer. We boated some good fish. Had 4 fish for over 11 pounds. One 4 #, one 3.5 and a couple over 2. All largies.

Bradley, so do you have a gameplan worked out for tuesday night? Are you going to be changing things up or sticking with what you did hoping the champs will slip up? I may or may not be out to defend the title.

Eric, what kind and color of boat do you have? Would you guys mind starting a thread on the local bass club? Giving everyone some info on it may help attract new members. Also telling about the Tuesday night bass tournaments might attract some new people too. Even a report on each tournament would be interesting.

    Thanks, Bill

ps. What do brush hogs look like? [you can tell I’m not a bass fisherman ]

Thanks for the info on the tourney. Is there a name and phone number that I can direct people to or an e-mail address? I get quite a few questions on the club and tournament, so it would be nice to have a person to tell them to contact.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

The local bass club is the Zumbro Valley Bassmasters. We have a meeting the first weds. of each month. The club fishes 7 tournaments a year. Much more to explain but don’t want to get confusing. Any questions on the bass club and how you can join, you can call me @ 507-272-0316. You don’t need a fancy boat to join, in fact you don’t need one at all. The dues are $85.00 a year.

Goosekiller explained the tues, night tournament well. This is seperate from the bass club. You don’t need to be a member of anything, just show up as Tim said.

    Tues. the 28th tournament:

Tim Domaille and Steve Hady took first with 7-11
Yours truely and Rick Billings 2nd with 7-7
    Jerie Eckholt and partner??? 3rd

We had about 10-12 boats. Only a few limits brought in. The Arneson brothers had big bass, a 4+ largie.

Anyone, feel free to come out. Low pressure fun tourney to break up the work week.

Bill, I don’t know how to post pictures, so about the brush hog, its a Zoom product. Simaliar to a lizard but has more bulk and more tentacles.

oh, by the way, for you Northern slayers, they were eating out there last night. I caught three, one I lost. One was over 5# I’m sure and the one I lost was I’m sure bigger. Straighten out a 5/0 hook on a jig and 25 # line. They were on timber, kinda deeper.

Brad has used this boat many times to fish the Walleye Searchers Tournaments [his other addiction-walleyes] [shhhh, don’t tell the bass guys, lol] so I have seen it many times. Very nice condition guys.

Brad, if you need help with pics just hollar and I’ll run [well, drive really] down the street to your place and take some pics and post them for you.
    Thanks, Bill

The Zumbro didn’t produce too many bass last night. It seemed a little tougher for most last night than usual. Maybe the holiday weekend boat wake, etc. pushed the fish out off the banks a little more.
Jay Hodge and Nick Bowlus won with 4 bass for a littl eover 8 pounds. They had a 4+ pound largie.
@nd went to ol’ Jerrie Eckholt and partner. They always have a limit of 5. 7+ pounds.
There was 9 boats I believe.
The water has cleared up pretty good again. Northerns were biting as usual. They seem abundant out there, maybe unless your trying to catch them.
