Lake Zumbro: The bite has been fairly good this past week. Crappies and bluegills are coming more consistently near shorelines, but may move deeper if the weather is cool. Crappie minnows, waxies or worms, and small jigs will work. There are also some nice sized northerns being caught by accident when fishing for crappies.

Foster Arends Lake: Still producing some very nice trout and panfish. A variety of bait is being used including minnows, waxies, power bait, and flash type lures.

Chester Woods: Reports keep getting better. Some decent bluegills and crappies are being caught. Look around submerged wood.

Willow Creek: Producing some nice bluegills and some crappies. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work.

Country Club pits: Producing some sunfish and crappies.

Game Haven: Producing quite a few fish at times, mostly up in shallow areas. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work.

Mississippi River backwaters: Some of the traditional areas like West Newton, Wilcox, The Dike Road, Finger Lakes, and some of the harbors are starting to produce nice crappies and bluegills. Best areas seem to be around submerged wood. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work. Some northerns are also being caught on sucker minnows or larger spoons.

Stop by HOF for all your fishing needs. We are located 1 1/2 miles north of the 37th St. and North Broadway intersection.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks Mike. And just in time for the long Holiday weekend. From what I hear and know the Paddletails and Mini-Mites are the hot plastics for catching those crappies. They work great on a very light jig below a bobber. Do you have alot in stock?
    Thanks, Bill

We’ve got a good selection of mini-mites which have been working better than paddletails for Ron and I. Lots of colors to choose from.

    Good Fishing,

I was on zumbro last weekend and the mini mites (various colors) didn’t produce a fish. The good news is that they would not leave a tiny white Mr Twister alone.
Once the rain started though the bite really slowed down for me. Anyway it was a fun morning of fishing.

    Hey MDP,

I’m very surprised to hear your report about mini-mites. We have been fishing them all spring with great results at a number of places, but especially at Zumbro. Just goes to show you that you always need to be ready to try other lures until you find one that works.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike
