Have a Happy Opener Everyone. When my alarm clock told me 45 mph wind gust today I thought I’d spend a few minutes on my favorite, the only if you ask me, fishing site while eating my breakfast before checking out the walleye water [Mississippi River where it won’t be so crowded]. I use to get excited about the Opener when the kids were younger and lived at home and we took the whole family camping at a southern Minnesota lake resort that weekend and did get alittle fishing in. When we have the Mississippi River [a world class walleye fishery] so close and its Opener everyday all year around and I always have many many walleyes under my belt so to speak by opener day in Minnesota its just not such a big day to me anymore. Yes I will fish some lakes this year and see some old lake fishin friends doing it but I have chosen to stay away from the crowds this opener. At least thats what I think now but knowing all the river rats that I know I’m sure there will be alot of anglers on the Mississipi River this weekend too. Have a great weekend everyone!

    Thanks, Bill

PS. The bass opener is ”everyday” on the Mississippi River too.

I know the Mississippi is ALWAYS open, my dad lives in Lake City and we have enjoyed many hours out on the lake! It is a great fishery, I only wish i could find the largemouth, havent had too much luck with that, but once i get my own boat i will have more time and patience to find them. We can always find walleye or sauger and smallies on the river. Thanks
No gobbler shot this morning, had a chance too cautious to take a bad shot at one. There is always tomorrow, oh no another early morning

Before a migraine about put me on my knees about 2:30 a friend and i by Mankato had 8 nice 14-15″ eyes and put back about 15 smaller 12-13″ fish. Also 4 bonus 12″ crappies. Wish we could have been their until sunrise, i think 50 eyes would have been possible.

Hey James, Sorry about the pounding head. Where did you find the eyes last night? I’m originally from Lake Crystal and am always interested to hear how the fishing is over that way.
