Ashley has some high expectations for this open water fishing season. She won her own tackle box at the fishing contest last weekend and some tackle for it. Now she’s really ready to go fishing Her goal this year is to catch a big bass The last couple of weekends (and they have been cold…..lol) she has been using plastics and spinners for the first time, hasn’t caught anything with them yet but had a few bites and her casting is really getting good This coming weekend she wants to learn how to jig fish for sauger and walleye at the alma dam from a boat with me. Anyone have any tips on teaching a 10 year old on how to jig fish from a boat? Any good stories on teaching your own kids or grandkids how to fish in different ways? Troy Pike

I don’t have kids but have taken hundreds out over the years on guide trips. For that age group I have had the best success with rigging up a slip bobber so they can see the bite or getting a good sensitive rod spooled up with a superline so they can really feel the bite. Kids also really love underwater cameras. They really get a great understanding of whats below the water.

Ive got an 8 & 4 yr old. I’d have to agree that a slip bobber is the way to go. Unless the action’s fast and furious, they will undoubtedly lose interest.Example… If u have an 8yr old uve got about 8 minutes to put them on the fish.lol
