Felt like ice fishing today!

The weather today reminded me of ice fishing. I thought I would get out for a couple hours looking for crappies over in the backwaters. I got snowed on for the better part of 3 hours!
The good news is that there are crappies willing to bite in a few places. With the cold today, minnows on a plain hook fished slowly under a bobber worked best. I suspect that as the water warms, these fish will get much more active.
Even though I got a little cold today, I am encouraged that some of the best fishing of the year is just around the corner!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

    Hey Mike,
We were going to try for some panfish also, but we got about half way to volga lake and it was snowing kind of hard so we turned around. We’re going some other day this week.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

From what I hear it sounds like warmer weather starting Wednesday. Thanks for the report. The winds and cold sounded not so good for the big lake in the forcast so I know why you didn’t take the boat. I think winter and you get along tooooo good Bud. When I stopped out Sat am to shhot the breeze we had big flakes all of a sudden. Weird huh?! Maybe you need to formally say your goodbyes to winter [Mikes a ice fishing fanatic] so we can all get on with spring.
    Thanks, Bill

    hey HOF and Bill,
I was on the zumbro for a while today. Didn’t get a bite, but I did fish off of shore so my options are limited. Will take the boat out this week some time
    Will report then.
    Thanks

Driving back from Sioux Falls to St. Paul today I went from overcast and windy to hard blowing snow near white out on I-90 to sunny and fair…. all in about 90 miles.

    A strange day for sure.

Thanks Hollywood2 and Wall Climber. Look forward to your reports later this week. Just looked out the window and we have had alittle rain and a couple white spots on the ground too. Looks like mother nature is playing some tricks on us before being nice to us hopefully starting Wednesday as forecasted.
    Thanks, Bill

Weird weather is for sure. I have heard of reports of snow from several areas of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Come on spring!

Ashley and I went to the back waters on sunday for the crenlo fishing contest and both got skunked. It was everything from snow to rain to sleet. It was still better than sitting at home though. Troy
