As the water warms, the fishing will really start to get very good for panfish. So far, things have been a little slow in most lakes.
Lake Zumbro: Some nice crappies and bluegills are starting. The shorelines with steep drops seem to be the best areas. The fish will be at varying depths, so you will need to do some work to figure out where they are at on any particular day. As the water warms up, they will tend to be shallow much of the time. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work.
Foster Arends Lake: Some very nice trout are still being caught. A variety of bait is being used, including minnows, waxies, power bait, and flash type lures. I have heard of 2 trout in the 30 inch range coming out of here in the past 2 weeks and lots of 16-22 incher’s. Small panfish are also being caught.
Chester Woods: The only word to describe the fishing here is slow. This will get better as the water heats up.
Willow Creek: Producing some nice bluegills at times. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work.
Country Club pits: A little on the slow side, but should get better as the temps rise.
Game Haven: Producing quite a few fish at times, although they tend to be on the small side. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work.
Mississippi River backwaters: With the high water and cold temps, things are mostly very slow yet. This could change very suddenly as the levels fall and the water warms, so keep on checking. The traditional areas like West Newton, Wilcox, The Dike Road, Finger Lakes, some of the harbors will all have fish at times in the spring. Small jigs, crappie minnows, waxies or worms will work.

Trout fishing opens Saturday! Stop by HOF for all your fishing needs. We are located 1 1/2 miles north of the 37th St. and North Broadway intersection.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike
