Ashley and I took the fishing rig with the canoe out to willow creek reservoir on sunday from about 1 pm to 6 pm. It took us an hour to find the bluegills. We caught about 35 nice fish and brought a few home for supper. We first checked the deeper area with no luck, then we moved straight out from the dock about 300 yards. The water was about 7 feet deep and we were catching them on waxies, they were suspended at about four feet. I used my 16 foot colapsable crappie pole today, that is a blast bringing them big bulls in with. One thing I have learned from this winter is that HOF sells tubs of waxies. As much as I fish its cheaper buying them in bulk. One thing I was wondering is if I should keep waxies in the fridge or leave them out? Troy Pike

    Hey Troy,

Sounds like you and Ashley had some fun!
Waxies will tolerate cooler temps much better than warmer temps. Keeping them in a fridge usually works well, but it may be even better in a cool basement area.

    Good Fishing,

Hey Troy, nice seeing you guys and gal out at Lake Zumbro last Saturday. Ashley is going to make some guy a very happy man when shes older as she sure loves to fish. Thats fantastic. Sounds like a very fun day and very productive one too with the bluegills yous caught. Real nice fish Ashley. Thanks for the report and pic. Have you heard much about how the fishing is off of the dock out there?

    Thanks, Bill

My fishing partner’s son slipped his car topper into Willow and used the electric to hunt around for some sunnie action. He found no live fish but huge masses of dead floaters, including some pretty large bass, over at the end where the creek feeds the pond. The Sheriff’s office and another vehicle were seen out there running around the shoreline in red jackets. I feared the worst (poison into the pond from the big snow we just had) but this report put a smile back on my face knowing they did not all die. Anybody else hear of a partial fish kill out there?

I talked to the people on the dock before we left and they were not doing very well. It was realy slow from the dock. Troy Pike
