If the forecast holdsup, open water is getting REALLY close. The day time highs in the 50’s and 60’s and MORE important, the night time lows above freezing. I am predicting open water fishing by Wednesday or Thursday for panfishing in the backwaters and maybe the reservoirs.
Don’t know about you, but I have packed my ice fishing gear away. My open water gear has been gone through a dozen times and it is already to go. Ah, yes indeed it was a good ice fishing season for sure, but comeon Spring, lets get going………..

Hey gat, welcome to the forum. Keep us informed what is happening up your way. 1 1/2 to 2 feet of ice in your area. Move south pal, move south. You can be sure that we will post whatever happens down this way in the next few days. Got me one of those new fancy tackle canvas satchels. Have rearranged it so many times, I lost track. Used to work out of a old tin taclkle box that is at least 50 years old. I was told it was an antique and I should retire it. So now have it as a conversation piece.
So I am a little puffed up right now with my new purchase, don’t talk to me, I am at the pro level now.
Seriously, it is so nice to finalley be organized.

Yep, should be a possibility for this week or next to be on open water! I’m going to give Lake Zumbro a good workout this spring. West Newton, Wilcox, The Dike Road, and the impoundments around town should all be good once the ice is gone. Even the Zumbro River will have areas to catch panfish and the suckers make a great run at times. Boy, just can’t wait!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

You aren’t the only one who wants to hit Lake Zumbro hard this year Bud. People are still fishing on the ice by Fishermans Inn. Have to enter the ice from the ramp for safety but with this 50 plus degrees here now it will becopme unsafe fast. Have the boat batteries charged, panfish tackle boxes ready, and am going to put new line on the reels then I’m set to go get em. Come on spring.

    Thanks, Bill

Lake Pepin has been busted through by the ice breakers. Boat batteries are charged, some more rods were gotten ready tonight, great weather outside, and while the jon boat is waiting for Lake Zumbro to get rid of that ice the Lund will be back on the water this weekend on the good o’l Mississippi River. SPRING is here and its PLAYTIME!
    Thanks, Bill
