If you want fly fishing instruction, then consider the Trout Unlimited sponsored Rendezvous held April 29-May 1 at Bucksnort Dam on the banks of Trout Run. A specific agenda will be appearing soon on the MNTU site.

I can give you a relative list of things that you can see: fly casting, fly tying demonstrations, a chance to fish with local experts, a DNR electro-shocking on Trout Run that Saturday, a TU sponsored dinner at Eagle Bluff ($6 if you’d like to eat there; the program is free) that Saturday evening with the DNR’s very own Jason Moeckel giving a presentation on trout fishing, regulations, habitat, and much more – too much to list in just one post.

Following Jason’s presentation will be a rod raffle with FIVE fly rods up for grabs. All of the proceeds will be going to the Trout Run stream restoration project, which will begin in 2006 with the Hiawatha Chapter of Trout Unlimited working in conjunction with the DNR to rehabilitate this already jewel of a trout stream.

If you’re a beginner, have intermediate skill, or are already an expert, the Rendezvous is a great way to meet the people who are passionate about the sport of fly fishing, as well as the continued conservation of our area streams. Come for a few hours, or camp out and spend the whole weekend as many of my cohorts (including myself) have planned. It’s entirely up to each person as their is no sign up other than if you are intending on eating breakfast and/or dinner at Eagle Bluff on that Saturday or Sunday.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me an IM and I’ll answer what I can as best as I can.

    Regards,

    D.A.

Also, that Saturday the 30th, is the Win Cres Chpater of Trout Unlimited’s fund raising baquet.

I realize the allure to other events that weekend is the fact that they are free, but this event is designed to raise money for the resource; that being money raised at local TU banquets goes right back into very visible and tangible items like stream restoration, the funding of kids/seniors fishing day in Lanesboro, and many more.

    Lots do to that weekend!

    Regards to all,

    D.A.

Yes, that is the same weekend as the 5th anual Trout Day in Forestville State Park. A free event aimed at getting kids involved in the sport. Demos on everything from fly fishing to fishing with bait.

Might have to check out the banquet as well!!

Just like Trout Day, the Rendezvous is free as well. The only cost is to attend dinner at Eagle Bluff and to get involved with the rod raffles, which are obviously choices. However, unlike Trout Day, the Rendezvous is actually trying to raise a few dollars (as well as get more people involved in the sport itself), all of which will go back into the Trout Run stream restoration project. My attempt is not to bad mouth Trout Day; it’s merely to point out that there are differences in the two events.

I’d be willing to bet that the demos pertaining to fly fishing at the Rendezvous will be more cumulative, covering a wider range of activities associated with the sport of fly fishing. You’ll be able to learn a TON the Rendezvous weekend!
