I have heard from a few people that they opened the resivior on county 11 NE of rochester to the public. Anyone heard if anything is being caught in there? I wish they would open the one NW of rochester. It would be nice and close to my home in Byron. Troy Pike

Hey Sidecar..I also live in Byron, and my biggest irritation is the drive to ANYWHERE to get some ice fishing in…what do you recommend for me (spent 5 years living within 5 minutes of my permanent shack on lake Vermilion, which spoiled me)
Any help you can give would be great…I have never fished zumbro, Byllesby is 40 minutes away (and mixed reports on quality) the river is 45 minutes, waseca is the same….
help an addict??
February 27, 2005 at 7:24 pm #345866I think you are referring to Silver Creek? All the land surrounding Silver Creek impoundment is posted “no trespassing.” People have been fishing there and gaining access (supposedly legal) by going directly from the road to the water, thereby not putting foot on any posted land. I’ve heard there are some nice crappie, perch and sunfish in there. I have also heard that the impoundment may soon become open for fishing, although don’t know what is being done to get that passed.
So, in summary – if you step on any land, you are trespassing and subject to getting fined.Good Fishing,
MikeFebruary 28, 2005 at 1:18 am #345916I went out there today to check it out and just as I arrived I seen a sheriff’s suv so I thought I’d stop and ask him about it. He said that the people were trespassing unless they walked up the creek to get onto the resivior. It is legal to go up the creek from the road he said. Of coarse he wasn’t going to walk out and talk to anyone out there. He might have to work then. There was an article in the thursday paper about it. Troy Pike
March 1, 2005 at 12:39 am #346177hey troy,
I know you may not like CO’s(conservation officers) but it is their job to go look around at stuff like that, and he WAS doing his job just checking it out. He did his most important job of all and that is keeping the public informed by answering you question. Don’t be mad at someone for doing their job, they are some of the hardest workers the government has. If you dont do anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. Don’t bad mouth someone you don’t even know! I know many many many of them and all of them are nice guys. Don’t break the law and you have nothing to worry about.March 1, 2005 at 6:29 am #346259I have alot of respect for CO’s. If you would re-read my post it was a sheriff that I talked to, not a CO. I agree CO’s have one of the hardest jobs out there. Troy Pike
March 1, 2005 at 12:55 pm #346274I think all law enforcement people have difficult jobs! I appreciate them all!
Good Fishing,
MikeMarch 1, 2005 at 1:43 pm #346288As was mentioned there was an article in the PB about this. If I remember correctly they said another article this week was going to explain why it is not open to the public and that there was someconsideration of making it public. I guess watch the paper this week.
