Ron and I went to the backwaters by Wabasha today. We were facing the wrong side of a cold front, so the bite was slow and the fish were not aggressive. We did manage to connect on a few nice crappies and a couple really nice gills. We were fishing in 6 ft. of water, but only fishing about half way down. The fish all came on Ratso’s. Bites were very light and you had to be paying close attention because if you didn’t set the hook when the spring bobber moved, you probably missed the fish. We did manage to both keep a meal of fish, crappies were 10-13 inches and the gills were 9+ inches. The warm weather had no effect on the ice.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Has the water clarity changed after all the run off from the weekend? Thanks

The water clarity did not seem any worse where I was.

    Good Fishing,

Hey Mike, yes, we had some fun didn’t we? No, it wasn’t fast and furious, rather slow, yet providing decent sized fish. Had to be patient and wait for that short lived flurry. That is kind of how it has been from the reports. One day she is hot and the next day she is not. How many times have we heard, should have been here yesterday? This year, timing has been everything. All I have to do is figure out the odd days from the even days, only this year the odd days have out produced the even days. Wait, is it the other way around?

I fished the dike road on Tue. and the water is now pretty merky. You could really notice it if you closed up the shack.
