The bite at Foster Arends according to a guy I talked to who had been there fishing each day is that Saturday was a real good day and Friday was a super day. When we decussed today he said it was dead. Thats what Mike from HOF and I found out too. We started the day out at Willow Creek and the bite was slow for us. Then we moved to Foster Arends Lake to find the bite was dead. I’m thinking that there was too much pressure the two days before. We didn’t try the deep water where the more I think about it thats probably where they went today. Anybody else been out and want to share about your outting?
    Thanks, Bill

Hey Bill: Late report due to a busy weekend. Yeah I was there for a few hours on Friday and did well. Caught and released 5 nice trout and kept one that got gill hooked. All on minnows in the 18-22ft range and most were right near the bottom. Think I was the only guy there not in a shack that day. The DNR truck showed up about 1pm and added some fish but not sure how many. Was comical to watch a couple guys immediately move to within 15ft of the access hole and set up shop. Another guy and I just laughed and wondered if they would get into the truck tank. Even the DNR guy was shaking his head. Just another fun day on the ice.

Was out today from 11-2 and it was dead. Saw 7 other people off and on and nothing caught. Marked fish on the bottom from 8ft to 24ft but all they wanted to do was look. Was amazed at how much crap was on the ice from the weekend. Picked up batteries, lighter, propane cylinder and soda bottles. Man oh man people haul your trash off the ice. Oh yeah there is a car battery in the parking lot too.

Thanks for the update Bud. I marked fish on the bottom in shallower water but could not get them to bite no matter what. I used waxies and Mike used minnows and still no takers Sunday. Think they were too spooked with all the pressure the past few days. Its too bad that some people don’t care enough about the lake and shoreline area to pick up after themselves. Someday there may be a police officer in plain clothes policing the area and if he sees people littering it will be possibly a 700.00 fine. Thats what it may take to get people to stop littering. Thanks again for the report and for picking up after people who call themselves fishermen? I always thought fishermen were people who loved the waters and resources we have. Thanks, Bill

Just got home from Fosters and had some ok luck for 2 1/2 hrs of fishing. A 15″ rainbow, 4 smaller brookies and a small crappie. All but one brookie were caught on a minnow/jig presentation in 9′ of water on the North side. Was using a green and an orange jig, the orange caught more fish. As I was talking to a buddy I missed something that took my minnow and the hair from my jig….musta been hungry. I didn’t see any others caught although my buddy did have a few bites.

Dang people! Fines need to be given out to straighten these people out. I saw the battery in the lot too. This really pi$$es me off especially when it’s left on the ice to become trapped and sink later on…

Wait a minute, I read here that a couple of you witnessed a whole bunch of trash out there? Excuse me, but didn’t I read in the Rochester Post Bulletin a few days ago that there was a conservation group or well intended fishing organization that supposedly held an event to delibertly police the area and pick up litter. You mean to tell us that between now and then, all the crap built up to that degree?????? Oh I don’t doubt for one moment that these latest reports are not accurate, but if those others efforts and the newest reports are correct, yes, something really needs to be done and quickly. Otherwise, we have a new landfill.

RHW: I read Crappie Tom’s report on the FM site and I guess they struggled with some of the cleanup due to the ice storm freezing stuff in. Mostly on the shoreline though. I was on the ice Friday and then today so all I can say is that the culprits appeared over the weekend.

Well they called off school so was a good excuse to drag the kids butt out of the sack and hit the pond. Well it was after 10 before we got there. He just turned 13. Are they always that hard to get up? LOL
Left about 2:30 and the tally sheet showed 2 rainbows (9″ & 13″), 6 crappies (the usual tiny ones) and one really nice bluegill 8.5″. Couple other unknown bites on tipups. Mixture of minnows and waxies in 8-23 fow. We kept one trout and the bluegill. The kid also scored about a 1/3 of a pail of garbage. Some people have too much money to waste. He found a couple partial pkgs of cheese (cheddar and colby) as well as summer sausage and jerky. And the usual empty cans and bottles. Walking out he found a full can of Bud Lite. It tastes good as I’m typing this!! I tried to pull the wire out of the snow and ground that is on the north end ramp but it’s stuck too hard for me. Just another wonderful day with my son.

    Mr. Rock,
I’d like to thank you for taking care of the trash you found. I just got in from FA and some friends said they saw some kid putting it all into his bucket.
As I left I picked up a pop bottle and some wadded up paper. I got there at 3pm so the trash was left within 1/2 hr of the time you left… You deserved the beer bud! Oh yeah, I was making a bunch of racket so I don’t know how I caught anything but I brought up a small crappie and 3 small brookies

I have never fished FA during the winter but I fished it last fall and summer. That’s one thing that realy made me mad was all the trash I seen laying around. I also picked up as I went to and from the dock. Troy Pike

The trash problem out there is really bad. We need to get people to ”care” about the place where they fish. Picking up after yourself is not hard to do. Maybe it will take a few 300.00-700.00 fines before people will stop littering there. I hope we can somehow get people to stop before that happens. If we ALL carry a plastic bag with us each time we go out there and pick up what trash we see it will help. Thanks, Bill
