Was at monor pits last night and pounded sunfish as fast as you could get your jig back on the bottom. The only problem was that we wanted the craps and that was the first time I’ve been there and NOT pulled some through the ice. Anyone else have that problem out there? The sunnies were about a year away from being nice keepers. Bass were also hitting on occaision but nothing even close to a pounder. Talked to one guy who said he’d been out there quite a bit and the craps just are not there. Talked to another guy who said his buddy caught 2 WALLEYES out there, another first, he said they were 15 and 16″. I’ve fished out there for the past 6 years pretty consistantly and have never seen a wally, but then again I’ve never been skunked for craps either go figure. And on a side note, if you get away from crowds on the zumbro there are some monster bull gills waiting to eat.

I have parked in front of the fire station on 2nd street and I talked to the fireman that were out behind the building smoking, they said it’s fine to do that. There is also a public entrance on the west side, you have to go into the residential neighborhood and walk in. Ive only been there twice and have had no luck. Troy Pike

Did you have a flasher of similar locator? Whenever I go the crappies are usually suspended. Thanks

Years ago the crappies use to hit good on small jigging raps. Haven’t been out there in years but it might be worth a try. Seems there was a hump out there that held crappies.
    Thanks, Bill

Yes we had my Vexilar fL-18 and we never did see any suspended schools of fish come through. I don’t know of any humps in the lake, but then again I’ve never really ventured out and about. We were at the general location, right off of the point in 10 feet of water. We parked right in front of the Mayo parking lot, there is a small spot for about two or three vehicles.
Headed out to Zumbro last night and did fairly well but the bite has diminished some. Ended up with 18 sunnies, one of which was 10 inches, and 6 crappies, one of which was 14 inches. So there are some slabs but the bite was slowing and light, we were in 22 feet of water and I do believe that all fish fell to waxies, we also had minnows but not much action for them.

The pit I’m thinking of I believe is the first one [closest to the gas station]. Its been so long since I have been out there. Thanks for the report.
    Thanks, Bill
