Today, Mike/HOF and I went ice fishing near Wabasha in the backwaters. It was a long wait, but worth it. Did very well. Easily caught and kept each a limit and not a one was smaller then 8 inches. NICE BLUEGILLS.
In about 3 to 4 feet of water. Ice is a GOOD 8
inches. Mike used a white tear drop tipped with a waxie and I used a purple Ratso also tipped with a waxie.
They were hanging real tight to the bottom. So tight that there were a couple times when my line went slack, I thought I had reached the bottom, only to feel weight when I lifted to start my descent all over again. Mike kept murmuring all day, “lite bite, lite bite”.
He was right. I stopped watching my spring bobber altogether and starting concentrating on line ticks, twitches, sideways movement and slack line. Funny how an 8 1/2 inche bluegill can take your bait and never move a spring bobber. We ended the day by coming back to Rochester and fishing Foster. I got two bites, Mike got two bites and he caught a 10 incher. We only gave that an hour shot. Flashy spoon type jigs and minnows is supposed to be what is working there.
OK, good reports coming in so get out
there.
