Just got back from 10 hours on the ice. Fished Alma till noon, the action was there but it was on the slow side and the sizes were small. Ran up to the Backwater areas in Wabasha and hammered the bull gills. There were plenty of 8inchers in the mix and the action was constant if you were willing to work a little. Ratsos and spikes were the Bomb, other jigs and waxies would hit fish but today the horizontal presentation outfished any other.

Thanks for the report Joey. Sounds like you had some good fish going. Any certain color better than others? How deep of water were you in when you fished the backwaters? Thanks, Bill

Heck…it was so nice out there even I had to try a little ice fishin today

Actually I had a little business to take care of back in Winona, so we decided as long as we’re down there we might as well fish a bit.

We started out fishing a few of the traditional areas with not much happening at any of them. The only place we didn’t try was airport as it looked like an absoulute zoo, but I just heard they have been doing decent out there .

Anyway, at about 11:00 we decided to hit up my little go-to “Secret Spot” to see what was goin on. That turned out to be a good move, as we had fast and furious action there for about 1-2 hours before it finally started to slow down . We ended up keeping 20 nice sized sunnies and 1 perch. No real brutes, but all solid 7″-8″ eaters . But the best part…..we had the whole place to ourselves .

    Hey whippersnapper, nice photo.
So now, why is it you don’t like ice fishing?

Got down to the backwaters again today (sure is nice not havin a job )

The fish were cooperative once again. Between two of us we caught well over 50 sunnies, 1 perch, and 1 lovely doggie . The majority of the sunnies were between 7-8.5″es, with the largest going 9 1/4″ .

The fish seemed to come in waves. You’d get 3-4 out one hole right in a row, then it would be dead for a while, and other’s would be pullin in fish left and right. kinda weird .

Also saw a guy get a decent slimmer (is there such thing? ) and a large mouth that was about 3#s on a tip up. I guess he enjoys the mushy taste of bass, cause he kept him

Nice fish Mr. Jake! I suppose you were at your top secret spot again? I always suspected that you are an ice fishing machine!

    Good Fishing,

Some of us don’t see the need to keep track of our fish count. It would be very difficult to keep track of those large numbers anyway! Whippersnapper!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Yep! Jakes an ice fisherman alright. All kinds of proof now. Keep the reports coming. What are you catching all your fish on? How deep of water? Are you holding your fish or someone elses? I wonder whose catching the fish-Jake or his buddy?
    Thanks, Bill
