I got out with a couple of friends today on Foster Arends for a few hours today. We caught 1 small trout in the shallow area, and I also had 2 more on but my anti-reverse wasnt working so I lost them both. After the action slowed we decided to try the hole in the middle of the pond. We fished in 20 feet and caught 2 nice rainbows and a bunch of small crappies. The crappies and the trout were suspended about 5-7 feet off the bottom. Both nice trout came on tear drops and waxies. Thanks

Thanks for the report Tony. Glad to see you got out and had fun. Which colors worked best today?

    Thanks, Bill

Thanks Tony. I haven’t seen any Genz jigs this year anywhere which I think is strange as you use to see alot of his name brand stuff as it was popular. I know HOF carries alot of the other popular jigs and you can buy them seperately as they are not in packages which is real nice so you can mix and match and buy as you like.
    Thanks, Bill

I’ve noticed the same thing….You used to see all kinds of “Genz” stuff – the rods by Berkly are absent – except GM has (or had) what might have been a few “left overs”.

Maybe he wanted to much $ for the use of his name?

after another lack luster morning of pheasant hunting, and because I LOOOOOOVE ice fishin so much, we decided hit up foster for a couple hours this afternoon.

The trout are definatly there to be caught. I guess we only landed 3, but had 4 or 5 others hooked and come off right at the hole (no big deal since we were realsing them anyway!!! ). Also missed a few other biters.

Small jig and a waxie worked best, but minnows did get a couple takers too.

Got a lot of Genz jigs for ice fishing. Never have had much luck on them. Other stuff just worked better. Maybe I wasn’t using them right. My opion. Another fishing gimic that got me I know I’m a sucker to try anything new. Art

Art, I think they are probably more user friendly up north where there are deeper water lakes. If you notice his jigs are bigger in size than most ice jigs for the purpose of seeing them on your flasher in deeper water. The lakes in southern Minnesota are shallower so they may not have sold as well here and also maybe he did want too much money-who knows.

Hit the pond with my son from noon until 2pm after a stop at HOF for some minnows. My first ice trip of the year to get the dust off the gear. Two small crappies and a really small bass for me and one nice 13″ rainbow for the kid. All went back and swimming happy. Saw a couple young guys in the NE corner with 5 trout on the ice.

Hit up foster for a couple hours again this afternoon. The wind was NASTY, but the fish were snappin. We ended up pullin 3 trout (all caught by ME of course) and missed MANY others. It has become very tricky fishin out there now as all the snow has melted off the top of the ice. The fish can very easily hear and see you coming. You HAVE to be sittin right on top of your rod to get to it with out being busted .

The 3 fish caught and the vast majority of the bites came on waxies just 3-5ft below the ice
