permanent ice house question………..

This will be my first year of having a permanent ice house on willow creek. I have had many people tell me to lock it and many people tell me that if I lock it, it will be broken into over and over again. It will most likely be the only one on the lake. Any advice from you ice fishing professionals would be great. Troy Pike

    I’m certianly not a pro….

But I learned the hard way 15 years ago. Fishhouse was locked and they (kids I’m sure) broke the door off to get in. Nothing in there but a wooden chair.
Since I would never leave anything of value in a house, I never again lock it. My wooden chair is hanging in my garage waiting for next year.

I would vote to leave it unlocked.

I had a permanent one year. It got broken into, vandalized and pretty much trashed. I know several other people that have had problems. My solution was to go with a portable.

And leaving it open makes for a great outhouse for others. I vote portable too. Yeah a little more pain to drag out every time on that hill at Willow but better than fliping frozen “babyruths” out the door.

I always thought ice fishing was a good excuse not to study when I was in school. Slimers on the small end of Lake Winona is always fun. I know you love them!!

I would also vote portable, but if you want to know how we handled people breaking into our permanent, PM me.

I wanted a permanent ice house so I don’t have to drag the house out there every time. Maybe I should put a pit bull inside with a doggie door and feed him every day. Or mabe an air horn off my semi tractor set off when the door opens

Troy: How about you put it out and supply the bait and the rest of us could take turns “staffing” it for you so it’s never empty.

Rock’s idea works for me. Where do I sign up for a shift or two?

Now all you need is for Hooked On Fishing to supply the tackle and you’d be set. Just show up and fish. What more could a guy ask for? Besides beer…..

    Hey Blue,

Are you volunteering to buy the beer? Any chance we could get a few Bloody Mary’s as well?

Troy, take a look at the Fish Traps that are nice and light and easy to pull. And all you do is just pull it over your head to close it as its already set up so to speak. I bought the one man which weighs something like 27 lbs.

    Thanks, Bill

I have a portable ice house, a flambau XL I always go fishing with my brother so a little portable wouldn’t make much sence. I’m going to put my permanant on that lake one way or another even if I have to gaurd it from punks myself I used a very large crate 8x8x6 high from work and reenforced it, painted it, still working on the insulation and putting a roof on it. We used a steel door from an old camper. Troy Pike

Jake, do you still have that highly fashionable icefishing bucket you used last year? You know the one I’m talking about. It was square and said ‘Kitty Litter’ on the side.

After I thought about and discussed it with Arnie my friend who is helping build the ice house, we both agreed that it would be better to have someone using the house during the week and keeping an eye on things, we only will be using it some weekends and once in a great while in the mornings during the week. We both work second shift 2:30 pm to 11:30 pm we can’t use it in the afternoons at all during the week. So here it goes. WANTED: responsible persons to house watch during the week, fishing is optional. Must pay for copy of key and chase off any evil doers with a vengeance. Must take their garbage with them and bring their own heat. A small donation to the hooked on fishing free bait fund is appreciated. ( just kidding mike) This baby fishes 6 so bring a friend. Apply here. Troy Pike
