I had to work both jobs on Friday, my part time job before and after my full time job:( I thought I’d go to fosters to play with the new rods in between the two. I swung into HOF with the sidecar fishing rig to ask mike about a problem I have been having with my reels in casting with a slip bobber. It seemed like every time I casted the line on the reel it caught the knot on the line. I noticed it because in Chester woods I fish from 12 to 20 feet and I like to cast next to trees in the water. Mike said to try a different line and he put some different line on the reel. I left and heard some odd noise coming from the right on the rig. I had blown a head gasket on the rear jug on the rig. I made it to fosters and called a friend to come and take the large rig to my mechanic. I figured I may as well fish a little with my new rod from HOF while I was waiting. When I got to the dock there was a grandfather from California with his grandson from Rochester. The fish were not biting . I talked with him for a bit about the fishing in California and he said he didn’t fish much. The little boy (about 9) was trying to catch the little bass and sun fish hiding in the shade of the dock with large night crawler. I was a bit pissed about the sidecar rig but I figured I’d make it a positive half hour of fishing until my friend showed up. I had stopped at HOF last week and bought a lot of wax worms for Chester woods and had a bunch with me so I asked the little boy to try some of my little wax worms on them small bass and sun fish. I gave his grandfather a pack of them and he handed it to his grandson. He no more than put one on and it hit the water and he had a small sunny. With a smile on his face he had grandpa help him take it off. then a little bass then another little sunny. I did cast my rod a couple of times and just changing the line took care of my problem of the line catching the slip knot. I didn’t think line could be that much of a different Great job Mike I was having so much fun watching that little boy bringing in small fish I sat back and watched him and grandpa have fun with them. My friend showed up and I packed up to go back to the rig to load it when just after I had left the dock the grand father yelled “thank you” and the little boy ran up saying “sir, sir” to give me back what was left of the pack of wax worms. I had so much fun watching that little boy catch small fish and keep his grandpa busy I opened up my bait container and give him another pack of them little wax worms. I replied “good luck and have fun” back the man as we went to load the sidecar rig. I have to say that as bad as my day was going it made my day much better watching them two catch fish even they were not big fish. I guess fishing is therapeutic…. I was much happier when I left than when I had come. Troy Pike

Why is that Troy? Watching someone else, no matter if it’s a small child catching small fish…or an adult landing their first 30 lb catfish…It’s more fun to watch than if you were catchng fish yourself.

    Good Job! Time well spent!

Have you ever heard the saying ” its much more blessed to give than to receive.” Its very true as you have just found out. It made your heart much happier to give and make them happy than it would of if you would of caught a sunfish yourself. Your unselfish act caused great joy in their lives and that joy overflowed into your life and you also were happy.
    Thanks, Bill
