Me and a friend fished at chester woods on sunday. Fish were not biting. We caught a couple of small pan fish, a nice bass and my friend caught a nice 8 pound cat fish. He put up a good fight. Troy Pike

Troy, you have posted a couple times about fishing Chesterwoods. Are you fishing from the piers or out of your canoe? I never have much luck off the piers, except first thing in the spring, maybe April into May. I thought about renting a paddleboat, but not sure I have enough strenght to paddle to the good spots. That and at the rate I paddle, it would be a two day event.
August 16, 2004 at 10:46 pm #317581Annie and i fished Chester and Willow. Got a few nice gills. Our fave is beaver, lots of nice krapes.
August 17, 2004 at 12:59 am #317594I talked to a guy that works out there this weekend and he claims the catfishing on chester can be Phenominal (if you know what you’re doing). He claimed to have caught cats up to 15# this summer. And supposedly it’s only going to get better .
As far as the sunnies go, I’ve had good luck out there in the late summer/early fall using ice fishing jigs with a waxie out deep around the trees (the ones in the middle of the lake). I’ve never done great from shore out there, although we have caught a few decent fish early summer from shore (but along ways from the peirs )
August 17, 2004 at 1:13 am #317596Hey Wall Climber,
Welcome to the site! Not sure I understand your comment “Our fave is beaver?” Is that another lake or something else?
Talked to a guy a couple weeks ago that has targeted cats on Chester and caught several large ones with the biggest coming in at 20 lbs.
Good Fishing,

August 17, 2004 at 5:24 am #317619I have fished from shore a couple of times and had no luck. I always go out in my flat bottom boat or my canoe when I have the fishing rig along. I love willow creek because I know where the fish usualy at. But I want to learn where the fish are in chester woods and as big as it is it’s not going to be easy. I’ve only been out there about 6 times and havn’t found those fish hangouts yet. Troy Pike
August 17, 2004 at 5:27 am #317620Sounds like FUN with the cat! Especially since it sounded like you guys were after panfish which mean’t lighter rods and weren’t prepared for the battle for an eight pound cat on the end of the line.
Thanks, BillYep we had light rods. It was interesting watching him try to get a 8 pound fish in with an ultra light.

August 28, 2004 at 2:18 am #319229Sidecar – I live 2 blocks away and bike past your house everyday to and from work. I’ve been fishing Chester since it opened and have learned quite a bit about it and would be glad to share what I’ve learned. Then I took a couple kids out there last Sat and didn’t do well at all. That’s why it’s called fishing and not catching.
When can I find you home to plan a trip out there?

August 29, 2004 at 4:27 am #319288I fished at chester woods saterday afternoon. Had pretty good luck with the panfish, brought about 7 good sized ones home for supper. I didn’t have anyone to fish with so I took sparky our dog for the first time ever in a boat. He did pretty good in my little flat bottom boat and kept me good company. Troy Pike
September 7, 2004 at 3:56 am #3201649/6 I fished at chester woods for about 3 hours this afternoon. I only caught 3 good sized sunny’s. Everyone else I talked to said it was slow for them also. I used my new custom rods for the first time today. I love ’em!!!!! Troy Pike
