A fishing story. I was at fosters on Thursday fishing from the dock. A father and son were fishing together and the son caught a nice bass from the shore and the dad asked me what kind of fish it was. I told him it was a bass and we let it go. He told me he was a teacher and his son had taken a field trip to fosters a little while ago on his first fishing trip and had caught a lot of fish. His son had talked him into going fishing with him for the first time. He asked how a slip bobber worked so I showed him. I had my cat fishing pole with me so I asked the boy who was 10 if he wanted to try bottom fishing. He asked what kind of fish hang out on the bottom and I explained that some of the larger fish like suckers and carp are bottom feeders and are some fun fish to try to get in because of the fight. The father asked a lot of questions about fishing. I was happy to answer any that I could, being far from an expert in the field, only fishing for a little over two years. I showed his son how to use a spinner reel with and how with a 3 ounce weight on a Texas rig could be thrown a long ways out. I put a couple crawlers on the hook and let him go to work. He had a blast casting with a new style of reel and got pretty good with it, he couldn’t believe how far he could cast it out. I showed him how to set the pole down and tighten the line so you can see the end of the rod move when a fish bites. He got a couple of bites but no cigar. I was really hoping a big carp or sucker would bite. Then about 40 minutes later, I had to go to work it was great to show a father and his son fishing in different ways. Troy Pike

That is good sidecar! This is why the ARM Event is so fullfilling to many. As I’ve said in numorous posts, watching someone else get into a good fish is actually BETTER than catching one myself…I guess that sounds a little odd…but true.

    Thanks for taking the time
