Headed down to the Cannon River this Sat. to do a little fishing with the kids. We don’t care about species. Just having fun.

    1. How are the water level conditions?
    2. Water temps?
    3. Techniques we should be considering?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Water level is high and not so good. Could be ok by this weekend. Be careful.
    2. Water temps are normal for this time of year but I don’t know exactly.
    3. For catfish, listen to BK. For smallies, bring plastics and jigs or spinners. Fish them around the riffles on bends and rocks. Sometimes the smallie fishing can be really good all along the river from Cannon Falls down to Welch. Sometimes not.

    Good luck and be safe.

From Cannon Falls to Welch if you read the river carefully you may be able to pull a walleye or 4, usually of the eater 15-18 variety. Plain ‘ol mister twister is best for them. Typically a plain hook with a crawler tossed out and left on the bottom will earn you some sort of rough fish if your just looking for a fight. Pannies would probably be best fished in low flow deeper pool areas or near the weeds. Good luck and report back
