    Hey Everyone,

I am heading to Canada for the 1st time and was wondering what type of walleye lures I should use. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks Buckmaster

We always had the most success with jigs and white plastic tails. Bring a variety of sizes since you may be fishing water deeper than 30′. Small fat raps (trolled) were perhaps second best.

I went for the first time last year and we did really well with crawlers in a worm harness with a 1/8 ounce walking weight and 2-3 foot leader. Where are you going? We went to Lake of the Woods near Souix Narrows. Want to go back badly, but my kids would miss too many ball games.

Jigs, jigs, and more jigs. 3″ plastic minumum with a chunk of crawler like basspack says or even a leech. Don’t bother with any kind of minnow, they are waaaay too expensive and not any more effective. You can bring your own worms and leeches into CA so I’d also recommend doing that. Versus buying them there.. Just make sure you have a good deal of ice if houseboating or camping.

Also, I heard that the Lac Seul area is about 2 weeks behind in water temp and fish behavior from Dave and Irene at Lac Seul floating lodges in Hudson. So bring appropriate clothing and plan for slightly more shallow water.

Have a great trip!! I leave again for CA July 16th!!

You cannot take leeches into Canada – they will get dumped at the border crossing. Nightcrawlers are OK if they are packed in worm bedding with the dirt removed. Potatos and onions are not allowed because they are grown in dirt. Seems our friends to the North do not want any soil from the USA. An option to buying minnows in Canada, is to bring salted minnows.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike
