Ma gave me a pass to fish a couple hours this morning so I hit up the lake to see if I could get anything to come out and play. I was there about three hours and did quite well. Nothing huge but the numbers were there.
Crappies were all in the 10.5″ to 11″ range except for a half dozen the topped out at over 12″. While the males were mostly dark, the females were all still hauling spawn and the couple hens I cleaned for a meal tonight the spawn was nowhere near really for dropping. With water temps consistently in the upper 60’s all over the lake I found this strange but then too the lake has been on a roller coaster for water temps and high water periods. The water wasn’t chocolate, but it sure as heck wasn’t all the clear either.
Some nice sunfish came to the boat and about half of the dozen or so that hit were in the 9′ bracket and had bellies swollen and as hard as rocks.
The only fish I could catch on shorelines or shallow water were smallies and roughies. Crappies and sunfish all came from water deeper than 6 feet, but they tended to hit real shallow over that deeper water
The fish didn’t show any interest in hitting until the sun was full on the water this morning. Its sure an alien bite out there this year.
One of the crew of Minnesota’s prtable scrubbing bubbles showed up as I was just getting set to leave the lot at Fishermans. That’s a private launch, why are they there? I thought they had to stay on public landings. No matter, I waved as I drove past the dork.
