Anyone try fishing below the silver lake dam in rochester next to the campground. I have caught a few smallies there in the past. Just wondering what else may be catchable.

I have not fished there for several years, but we used to get a lot of carp, catfish and bullheads. People have told me that they catch a large variety of fish there including northerns, crappies, and even a few walleyes.

Then what else did you catch below the dam last weekend? I’m sure not all the fish were gold?
    Thanks, Bill

Fished below the dam last spring from my canoe. Had a depth finder with me and was surprized to find that most of that water is only two to three feet. Found one small hole about five feet deep. Still managed to catch a couple of northerns, the biggest being about 4 lbs. Also picked up one smallie and several crappies. By the way, we also pulled a 20 inch bicycle out of the water. If you do fish there and you’re casting, keep your rod tip up. There are plenty of opportunities for snags in there.

2 years ago I was driven to the gas station and I was watchng a couple fishing down there and low and behold the caught a 8lb+ walleye. Prior to this I have heard of a 4lb+ walleye coming from the same area.

Saw some people fishing down there the other day when I drove by. Makes me wonder if there aren’t fish gathering down there in the channel area by that point as thats where they were fishing.

    Thanks, Bill
