Some of you know, I am a die hard, true to the heart, dedicated panfisherman, crappies and of course my all time favorite, bluegills. When I was young and foolish, plus full of energy 20 some years ago, I did fish for Walleyes. Well today Mike from HOF convinced me to join him at Lake City and give it a try. We left the Lake City Harbor and headed toward Wisconsin, where exactly I don’t know, ask Mike. We used Shad Raps I remember, but what size and how deep they ran, again, ask Mike. Mine was a green jobbie with a little bit of white on the belly. Mike’s was similiar. Mike scores first. Lands a nice 30 plus inch northern. Next much to my surprize, I feel this weight and set the hook. 21 inches and Mike tells me a good 3 1/2 pound Walleye. OK, now this walleye fishing has my attention. Too big to eat, so we let her go. Few minutes later, Mike simply says, Ron…….
Look over and see his rod bent, reach for the net and landed his 18 incher. Hey nothing to this walleye fishing. Time passes and he continues to get bites but they wanted nothing to do with us two killers, so Mike says, Damn, missed another one. Did manage to catch 2 or 3 strippers and let them go.
Start to think to myself, I can see why these walleye guys get excited and would love to try it again.
Thanks Mike for the re-introduction to it all again.
However, I suspect there is much more to it, then a green jobbie with a white belly in shallow water.
