Think they call them Euro rods

I think they call them Euro rods. Mike Fischer at HOF is putting together custom made rod for me. It will be 8 1/2 feet spin cast, fly weight of around 3. I have seen these longer rods, some up to 12 feet used by panfishermen and they look like fun. Hoping I can cast a 1/64 ounce jig all the way down town and should experience some really fun bend in the rod regardless the size of the panfish. Anyone else in here using this type of equipment and care to share what they have in the supper long ultra light rods.

    Hey Ron,

It will interesting to see how you like that new rod. I suspect it will become your favorite rod very quickly – at least for fishing panfish out of a boat. Those longer rods take a lot of play out of a bigger fish, kind of like a buggy whip shock absorber. I’ve got a 7 1/2 ft. ultralight and really like it for the panfish, but I’ve also caught bass up to 4 lb. and about a 10 lb. catfish on it – now that was a blast!
    Good Fishing,

Hey Ron, that northern I caught was on a 6ft. St. Croix ultra light rod and was a blast so a light weight 8.6ft. rod should be alot of fun. Mike makes really good rods so you will be getting a nice rod. And with St. Croix blanks too.
    Thanks, Bill

    Hey Ron,

Mike was working on your rod today. It will probably be done by Thursday, just in time to get back on Zumbro! Are you going to put the Okuma Metaloid 15 reel on it?

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Yes, it would tough to beat a custom rod made with a St. Croix blank and a top of the line Okuma reel!

Ah Michael, but of course will tenderly place my brand new Metaloid on the new rod. Nothing but the best. Let’s see how many Trophy Pro’s and Metaloid’s have you sold me in the past year. Oh yes, I remember, two each. The last two still sit on the kitchen table in their boxes, yet to be spooled with new line and I regularly play with them. Of course we are not going to share this with my wife, are we? She has this thing about too many reels and I just can’t explain the necessity of the more the merrier.

May I suggest hiding them someplace other than on the kitchen table. lol. Makes me wonder where you plan on hiding that new rod.
    Thanks, Bill

Nope, no telling the wife! Where to hide a 8 ft. rod?

Mike it is an 8 and a half foot rod and besides it will come in two pieces, so broken down, she’ll never even see it.
Nope all kidding aside, she really does understand my need for new fishing toys. I just have to reciprocate and buy her something of equal value. Hope she is going to enjoy her brand new custom made rod and Okuma reel.

Ron, if she doesn’t enjoy ”her” new rod and reel I KNOW you will.

Oh Ron, the new rod is done! Sure is pretty, maybe you should just hang it on the wall…. It probably would have been a lot of fun to catch your 21 inch walleye on the new rod today.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Mike, I plan on doing just that, hang it on the wall and admire it for at least a month. Don’t want any dings or dents. I saw it drying and I have to admit, it is very impressive. Looks like an expensive piece of furniture.
Tell you what pal, for a rental fee, I will leave it at the shop for others to see and that will definately increase your rod sales.
