Had a chance to spend about 3 hours fishing one of the local flood control impoundments this afternoon. The crappies were really hitting anything I tossed their direction. I used only small jigs with plastics or small hair jigs, all fished 1 foot below a bobber. The fish are just starting to spawn, so catch and release is important for the females. The males are easy to identify because they are very dark colored right now.
It’s time to get out and have some fun!

    Good Fishing,

I’ve run into the aggressive crappies on Pepin as well the last few days out catching some real nice slabs on small crankbaits. I guess if they’ll hit a shad rap, they’re on the bite pretty good. The sand bar out in front of Pine Creek is holding good numbers right now and it sounds like water temps all over must be “just about right.”

Sounds like music to my ears!!! Keep the good news comin! Water temps seem to be around 60 right now just about everywhere so we should start seeing a good crappie bite going on. Time to start using the ultra light rods for ”lots of fun.”
    Thanks, Bill

The water temps were 65 to 66 last weekend so things are looking up. Now all we need is the water temp to even itself out more through out the depths and the fastest crappie fishing of the year will be upon us. The males are already making nest up shallow so it won’t be long.
    Thanks, Bill
