Is the Zumbro a early morning or evening lake when it comes to catching crappies? I have never fished it and I want to give it a try for some of its crappies.

The crappie bite on Zumbro seems to be better at low light with the early evening bite being better on some days.

Mike, Thanks for the tip! I like to troll for crappie is this a good method? Maybe the time of the summer dictates that. Also like to drift for suspended fish. I know these tactics work but on the Faribault area lakes all these things seem to come at different parts of the year.

    Hey Buddy,
I fish the zumbro about every day. The best way to catch the most crappies is to fish a float and crappie minnow. If you are going to drift for them a small crappie tube (chartuse-red or red-white) works the best. I would try upstream more right now. About to the Sandy Point Bridge is a good place to start. Then the bay just downstream of the bridge is good too. If you are fishing for sunnies they are everywhere. Try just a hook and small piece of crawler they bite anything. Hope this helps,
    Paul

Thanks for the good tips Paul! I also like to fish them right now with a bobber in order to maintain the proper depth. They are setting up in their spawning areas right now, so close in to shore and shallow should find some fish. The sunnies are really nice too!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Welcome Paul. Thanks for the advice. Look forward to your sharing. Gundy, the males are getting darker and are closer to shore like Mike said. And there are some fat bluegills in there too. There is a public ramp next to the Ponderosa Campground by the Dam and a paved parking lot. If you have a small boat there is a public ramp next to the Sandy Point Supper Club by the fishing area Paul talked about but I don’t know how deep it is there. Last weekend I saw a bunch of small boat trailers there but it is usually pretty shallow unless they dredged it or something. If you would put in there go across the river after you put in to the other side by water for the channel for deeper water. Good luck and let us know how you do. You can stop in at Hooked On Fishing Bait and Tackle just north of Rochester on Hwy #63 [owned by Mike Smith] for the latest info and he can show you what plastics are best and of course has lots of bait. Thanks, Bill
