I was out on the zumbro yesterday and tried shallow, deep, with plastics and slip bobbers and have had no luck.

The nice bite found right after ice-out was helped along by the warmer weather, but those crappies settle down fairly fast and get right back into their usual routine of scattering throughout the lake for a few weeks before coming to gather near their spawning sites.

Another week, maybe two, and they’ll begin to show up in more predictable areas.

I hit the lake this morning and got fish. Purple/chartreuse or bluegill/chartreuse plastics under a float. 1/32 head. No bait.

The water temp at the surface was between 55 and 57 degrees depending on where I was at, but at about 7 feet the water struggled to get above 49 degrees.

90% of the crappies today were rising to hit and hit hard. One white crappie was an eye opener at 13.75 inches. Shes still swimming. I got a nice largemouth on the 7.5 foot untralight today too…..maybe 5 pounds.

The baitshop reported that a guy had to fish deep water, 25 to 30 feet and troll live bait at mid-column to get crappies. That’s a nice report….I didn’t have a soul around me today.
