All the slush was froze up today. Not much snow cover so very slick going. Ice is still a good 10 inches thick. Fishing was good also. Between 3 of us caught probably 50 gills some good ones too.

Do the gills out there still have the black parasites just under the skin?

Don’t know just catch and release for me. I do know someone who kept some. I’ll check with him and report back.

I was out with Chuck and kept some. Some did have the black spots. I was told about 10-15 years ago by a resort owner from Park Rapids that these are harmless after cooking. We have been careful when we find one that is overly covered, but have had no problems. I’m assuming that you are cooking these, so you should be ok. I have two friends who have worked with the Conservation department who have said the same thing.

Thanks Ed. I have heard the same thing about their lack of harm. I knew some of the fish had some a couple of years ago and have not kept any fish from there for a long time. Just wondering if they still had ’em.
