I have never taken a channel cat out of the ice. I see (dnr lake reports) that some local spots have a population. Where would one start? Deepest hole? Shallow? Minnow heads? Live minnow? I am not looking for GPS coordinates (that would be cool tho). Just some local info to better our odds.

    Thanks

Not sure why my first post did not go but I’ll try again. Caught 4 channel cats through the ice this weekend on lake Pepin in 16 feet of water. all were in the 5-7 lb ranges. good luck.

I’ve yet to give it a try. From what I read it sounds like you actually fish deeper holes and they will be suspended.

Maybe a bit late for you, but take a run to the second bay up from Fishermans Inn and fish the two corners. The downstream corner is probably the better. Use minnows like you’d use for crappies or maybe a small fathead on a plain hook and float set-up. Fish at mid to higher levels of the water column in the 12 to 15 foot water.
