I plan to fish there this winter. Question: I notice it requires an entry fee to park there. Is it a State Park Sticker or just its own Chester Woods parking tag? I can’t find a clear answer online.

    Thanks!

Appreciate it. I just ran across the info myself after I posted.

Call the county park offices and find out if the annual permit is retroactive from the day you purchase it like state park stickers are. If not, just pay the $5 daily until the first of the year, then get the annual.

A little primer for you. If you have a canoe, now is a good time to get out there and work on some of the submerged trees and points. Think deeper water.

One more question. I (Google Earth) see a road to the backside of Chester Woods that leads to the dam. Is that road private? Is it open over the winter????? That would definitely shorten my sled dragging time.

Nada. You have to come in from either the boat parking area or the lot for the beach if it is open and accessible. The pull from the ramp is not bad if the snow is packed down or the snow is minimal. From the beach lot you’ll have to go back UP that god awful hill when you leave. I’ve always opted for the ramp hike after doing the hill once.
