I took another little tour again this morning and was able to find a fair number of crappies in some deep water between the sheets of ice. Actually a mixed bag was served to my company and I today as we caught lm bass, sm bass, white bass, sunfish, and crappies all in the same area and all but one bass on plastics. And the craps and sunnies simply nailed this stuff. We tried several different profiles of baits, but the twister on a small jig was absolutely HOT when fished down to about 6-7 feet over ten -12 foot water. At times the fish came to every cast. The larger fish were not to be found but a limit of ten came home for dinner tonight that were averaging about 11 inches. The water temp was a balmy 44 degrees and fairly clean with a little flotsam floating around yet. With some good weather the ice will be gone in a week and the boat can go out then. For those interested, this 44 degree water and the onset of a solid plastics bite are right on course, with over twenty years of documenting. We will have about three more weeks of this type of action and then the tubes come out!
