With these high temps and high winds it will soon be high time to get out on the water. The ice should begin breaking up in earnest very soon now. What are the ice conditions out at Chester Woods and Lake Zumbro now?

There are still some people going on the ice at CW, but you will need to be very careful. Using an ice spud to check the ice ahead of where you are going to walk is a good idea. A few places around Wabasha-Kellogg in the Mississippi backwaters still have a good solid 15 inches of ice with no open spots around the shoreline yet. The warm weather will make ice conditions change quickly, so be careful.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

No worries for me guys. I don’t ice fish. When I cast my jig, I want to hear it splash, not chink, chink, chink across the ice.
I can be very patient when it come to open water. I see no point in taking any unneeded risks.

Looks like we might be seeing some navigatable open water real soon (no Titanics please). The only problem I have is that I won’t be able to get my boat out of storage for a couple weeks yet.

    …good things….good things…good things…

With a forcast like that, I won’t be able to walk on water much longer! I’m actually looking forward to the open water too!

    Good Fishing,

I drove out by Fisherman’s Inn this morning and there was no ice in sight. By Sandy Point the west shore line had about a forty foot strip of ice about 8 to 10 feet wide and that was it. Stopped in at HOF, met Mike and bought a hat. It was a pleasure to meet you face to face Mike. Now I’m getting jazzed about doing some open water fishing.

It was great to meet you Lew. Hopefully we can wet a line together in the near future!

Open water and wetting a line, now you guys are talking. After shooting the breeze with Mike right before he closed today I drove by Foster Arends and there was a good dozen cars there as people were fishing the shoreline open water. This warmer weather and rain and with some wind and it will open up soon.
    Thanks, Bill
