Anyone been to KR-7 this year?

As the title states! Until yesterday I hadn’t been fishing in probably 10 or 11 years, and have rediscovered the joy. I went to the Silver Creek reservoir last night and didn’t even get a bite, so we headed to Quarry Hill just for the heck of it after hearing they recently stocked the pond with SMB, and we caught a handful of sunnies. I recently heard about KR7 and it’s really close to where I live, so I’m curious if anyone knows if this is a good place to go?

Welcome! I had been to KR-7 earlier this year around the beginning of may and also ice fished it this winter for the first time. Generally you can catch pan fish one after another but they are all small with the infrequent “larger” one being caught. I fished silver creek reservoir yesterday for 2 hrs and caught and released about 15 crappies all 7-8 inches or greater with a perch and LBM mixed in… Good luck with your next fishing outing

Shorefisherman, what type of bait were you using out at Silver Creek? We were just using minnows and couldn’t get even a nibble in an hour’s time.

I was using a small curtail that I had about 2.5 ft under a slip bobber. I would cast the bobber out there an then slowly, and I mean slow, reel it back in. All strikes occurred within 5 yards from shore. The reason why I had the bobber was so I could reel in slowly and still keep the lure off the bottom. I also used a small hair jig with similar results on previous outings. Generally speaking, the fish out there will hit just about anything, usually.

Yep, you were right about catching a lot of small ones out there. However, on my first cast of the morning I caught a nice 11 inch black crappie that probably weighed a little over a pound. He made for a good lunch too! After that it was one after another of the small guys. We were catching sunnies, black crappie, and even a few TINY SMB on pretty much every cast, and I was just using a small pink tubular body on a yellow jighead. My buddy and I both probably caught around 30 fish each. We also kept a few of the sunnies that were big enough, but very few. Can’t complain about catching fish just because they were small, so it was a fun morning at Kr-7! Here’s a picture of the tasty little fella…

I’ve been out a handful of times since this post. Haven’t caught anything that was anywhere near a keeper. I actually caught a perch out there last week which was surprising. Now I feel bad about keeping that black crappie a few weeks ago. It seems like all the fishing holes in Rottenchester are way over-fished. Went to Silver Creek today and didn’t even get a bite, which marks an 0-2 record of anything happening at that spot. I almost like KR7 just for the fact that I can at least catch something there just to have some fun. I’m making a vow to not keep anything I catch in Crotchester from here on out.
