Every year at this time of year I start to count road kill deer on my 200 mile travel to the farm. It’s a decent way to judge the status of the rut. When the chase mode is on the road kill numbers spike. Well, lets just say the chase phase of the rut is here. Before this weekend the highest number of roadkill deer I counted on the trip was 6. Yesterday I counted 25 of the way home. Although I didn’t see it much at our farm over the weekend I have to conclude that in the majority of the central part of MN the chase phase is in full swing.
