Rivers?

  • #1783078

I was looking to find a nicer creek or smaller river to fish sometime. I’m looking for smallmouths, largemouths, and pike. Do you guys have any suggestions OTHER than the St. Croix or Sippi?

Rum River in Anoka all the way to Mille Lacs can provide fair to good smallmouth action.

90% of the rivers in MN will hold bass and pike. Do some research on Google earth to find access sites. It’s going to be tough to find someone that will tell you where a good spot is on a stream or small river.

The Zumbro River starting just below the dam at Lake Zumbro and ending in Hammond here in SE Minnesota. This stretch can be floated in canoe/kayak and even waded in large part in many areas with shore access.

This water is managed specifically for smallies and has some decent size available. A bonus can be a Muskie that doesn’t like the lake above the dam but love the same stretch of river the smallies do.

The cannon and root river in southern MN are options too if you want to stay further south. Be careful right now though, most rivers are quite high.

I don’t think the women on tubes would appreciate you calling them names, Mike.

The cannon can be a great river for any and all fish. You can float in a Canoe/Kayak from Cannon Falls all the way into the Miss or From Northfield to Randolph no problem. Both stretches hold good fish.
