River fishing or Deer hunting?

I am having an extra difficult time deciding this year. I can only hunt the Minnesota opening gun weekend due to prior engagements, but I am considering running down to pool 4 instead. What is the bite shaping up like for the walleye, saugar, whatever? -)

I can tell you this much, deer opener is one of the quietest days on p4 of the year. It’s on my calendar every year… for fishing.

I’ll be on the water that day. Not P4 though.

Pool 4 has been kind of slow for me lately. I fished the saugerama and only found small saugers and walleyes. There were some nice fish caught, just not by me. I will be fishing instead of hunting.

You can river fish any day of the year but you only get a handful of days to deer hunt. I’d be in the woods. Shoot a deer in the morning and go fishing in the afternoon…Backstraps and fish for dinner.

Deer hunting is more just playing cards for me, not much for deer around, I will be fishing, just depends on where.

If you truly are a deer hunter this is the only answer. Otherwise have fun fishing. Or canoe a small river where you can do both at the same time!
I have always wanted to do that.

Now that sounds like a perfect plan….

As of right now, I am planning on bringing my dad down to Evert’s for the first time in the morning. Been a while since I’ve been on pool 4 myself, any tips? Is the flow and level dropping at all? Or just ask at Evert’s in the morning? Thanks guys!

Pretty tuff bite this morning, couple walleye, couple saugar, and a couple sheep’s. Maybe I can figure it out one of these days.
