Went to a backwater that was only 7′ at its deepest-Did well on nice ‘gills and crappies at sunset-talked it up to my buddy we go out one week later and we got almost zero-have heard this lake can turn off. Is that common for mid-winter shallow backwaters?

Sounds just like a backwater lake that I know very well.

I’m not sure what specific areas of backwaters you’re talking about, but for the Mississippi and the pools I regularly fish (4 & 5) this is very common, even moreso through the ice. There’s just so many miles of backwater expanses for fish to roam. Pool 4 is also about 3′ higher than average right now as well on the lower end, which just gives panfish even more area to roam.

Thanks, guess I’m moving on to deeper lakes.
