I’m looking for a anchor that will hold my 20′ glass boat on the rainy river this spring. Have used large water spike, 28# navy, 26# mushroom and they all slipped on hard bottom with small rocks. With almost 100′ rope, by the time anchor got done sliding and held, I was either off spot or on top of another boat. Looking for type and weight of anchor. Getting to old to keep lifting heavy anchor several times in the same area.

Spot-Lock I have an anchor in the boat because it is required when I go to Lac Suel. But never use it.

Have you thought about a trolling motor with spot lock? That is all I use in rivers when I’m not setup next to the bank.

I use a water spike or a 28# Rictor never and issue need to use 6′ of chain with either help hold and abrasion resistance from rocks. Holds my 621 no issues.

Do you have a chain on your water spike? Think that can help with getting them set.

I think water spike and something like a Rictor anchor are about the two best out there. Even with thos hard bottom and fast currents make for difficult anchoring. Ive had 150′ of line out to try to get the anchor set in those conditions and my boat is much smaller. Remember getting the anchor to set is one thing. That does not mean you have to sit with that much rope out.

Maybe do a little research online for anchoring larger vessels and some of the anchors they use. Seem to remember rule of thumb is 4 to 5 times your depth to how much rope you should have out.

X2 water spike with chain always held me before spotlock

The rule of thumb for the coast guard is 7x your depth. That seems like a lot but having 100’ of rope out isn’t unheard of.

    Spot lock FTW.

Cat River is another excellent anchor. I find myself using it more often than my waterspike. In fast current – sometimes spot lock just doesn’t cut it.

We have usually relied on 2 28# navy anchors lowered at the same time with lots of rope out. They are a pain to haul back in but they seem to work well. 18 ft boat.

    I use one of these:
    https://www.amazon.com/YETI-Tundra-350-Cooler-White/dp/B01BXA732S

Filled with a combination of smaller yetis and mushroom anchors.

Just make sure to close the lid before you let it down or you may not get it back!

Best part is, you then have room for like 100x your limit when you are ready to leave and they will stay fresh for DAYS! And let’s be real, if you aren’t catching 100x your limit every time out, then why are you even there?
