Rippin Rap Fishing

    Hey Guys,

I haven’t used Rippin Raps much in open water. Looking for some advice on what works best in how to use it. I always thought the rip, fall, rip, fall was how it should be used. But, then I hear others say, no, for walleyes just a constant retrieve, with maybe a quick stop in there and back to constant retrieve.

    Thanks for the help!

I personally have best luck with the rip and fall. But what I learned was don’t get to aggressive with the rip. This spring I was hammering walleyes on them but I was fishing it more like I would a bass jig. I was just hopping it off the bottom maybe a foot and letting it fall. Just hard enough to feel the vibration.

Thanks Jeff. Do you ever troll with them?

Varies day to day hour to hour.

Approach it like you would Ice fishing…. Jig on your graph and watch fish reactions, adjust accordingly. This is the best advice. Choosing a single cadence is just not going to work.

Sometimes fish want to chase it 10′ in water column. Sometimes they want it just off bottom.

    Jerk or gentle swing.
    Plummet or slow fall.
    All varies.

Have pounded walleyes at noon clear water in 10′.

I only use the largest size and the only hook on mine is the treble.

I’ve caught everything swimming, including flathead catfish, jigging then on the graph.

Oops. Thought this was a “jigging rap” thread. Ignore^^
