Only the people with taste in the good music will know who this is. Joey was the original drummer for Slipknot. He passed away last night at the age of 46. He was an amazing drummer.

Bummer. Too bad he couldn’t get his stuff together.

He was one of the best drummers of all time. It’s really to bad. After slipknot battling his condition he still put out some great music

I’m familiar with the band and their music but not his story. All I’ve read is that he suffered from a rare neurological disorder and cause of death was not released – is there more to it? I mean, I don’t think Slipknot were choir boys, but was he a known substance abuser? Just curious because you say he couldn’t get it together.

Good taste in music I guess is up to the listener? But I will agree with being a great drummer.

Wow. Was never a huge slipknot fan but he was a solid drummer. Too bad.

I know slipknot isn’t probably a band for everyone but they are a generational type of band. Their talent and creativity on the heavy metal scene is pretty unrivaled.

Corey Taylor, deservedly so, gets most of the credit. But, guys like Joey gave Slipknot their sound. I’ve been a huge fan for a long time. Sad to see him pass.

Lol- yeah, musical taste is subjective, first off.

I wasn’t a big fan of his blasphemous image on stage(wearing the crown of thorns, etc.) but he was very skilled and influential, no doubt. Seemed like a pretty down to earth dude off-stage, as well. His single pedal double-strokes(alternating LRLR) were the bread and butter of his double bass drum technique. Very solid metal drummer, even a pioneer in ways.

His most badass album has to be “Iowa,” IMHO.

    Rest In Peace, Joey!

I loved that look. The blcrown of Thornes was a great look in my opinion. His mask from 99 to 13 when he was forced out of the band never changed very much. Joey was one of the actual founding members of slipknot long before Corey Taylor ever came in the the picture. Rip joey. I remember when he left slipknot. It all speculated down to heavy drug use, but in reality it was a very rare spine disease that he ended up fighting and beating in a way, where he could continue drumming in multiple other bands. If you get a chance watch some of his interviews and how much he worked with trouble kids, getting them in to playing instruments

Bear- that’s cool that he helped kids like that. All those guys are actually really cool good dudes it seems.

From what I remember that disease took out his legs for a while- scary deal for a drummer! shock

Yes it left him un able to use his legs. Which then he was pushed out of slipknot because they though he was making excuses for heavy drug use. At the time he was clean. And then he fought the doctors and ended up getting use of his legs back after a long while. Pretty scary stuff.
His family always talked about how gentle and quite he was. Obviously looking at him and listening to his music you wouldn’t never guess.
I met these guys at 2 back stage pass things and they were all awesome guys. Some were Obviously lit but very down to earth.

when i watched his entire kit lift up in the air flip down and then spin around as he’s shredding, i thought i’d never see anything so cool. i think i was right.
