I’m heading up to Lake of the Woods in one week and I’m looking for some recommendations on cranks.

This time of year we typically use down riggers most of the day and maybe do slip bobbers on the reefs if it’s calm in the evening. We’ve always had pretty good luck on Shad Raps and maybe some Minnow Raps, but anyone else have a favorite lure for LOW? I always like to show up with too many options as opposed to too little :).

I’m bringing my tray(s) of Shad Raps, but I’m thinking about throwing a couple other trays together with some:

    Salmo Hornets
    Scatter Raps
    Flicker Shads
    Jointed Shad Raps

Do those seem like good choices? What is your favorite LOW crank for some late August riggin’?

I was there last weekend through tuesday. Big fish were coming on #11 deep tail dancers. #11 original floater was also very good for big fish. The best for slot fish was a salmo bullhead #8. Last year a smash shad was the go to lure but this year they weren’t interested in them.

Thanks mojo! Were you pulling the deep tail dancers with down riggers?

I have a fair amount of tail dancers, but none of the deep ones. I’ll try the normal ones.

#11 original floaters eh? I have a couple of those, I wouldn’t have thought to bring them though! It sounds like you had some luck on the bigger sized cranks for big fish. Maybe we’ll set up a couple rods for slot fish with some bigger lures and some smaller baits for some ‘keepers’.

They were deep tail dancers pulling them with lead. 2 colors with a 50′ mono leader.

That makes sense :). Thanks for the input guys!

I have three trays stocked and ready to go, knowing me I will end up using about 1/10 of them total and wonder why I brought so many along…
