I couldn’t find the old post on this, and I know we had a good discussion on brands/experiences.

Anyways, for those that do a lot of flying with their firearms (long guns), what is your preferred case? I need to upgrade to one that I can confidently put up to 3 rifles in (with big scopes). – two gun minimum

Ammo – prefer to use a separate box for transport? I have the foam cut out and can put about 300 rounds of 22-250 currently in existing case. That number will be increasing to 800-1000 for P/dog shoots, so most likely will need a different case.

I saw some really nifty gun cases at the SCI show this past winter, Randy. Several companies make aluminum 3 gun cases where the guns rest upright, meaning as they would be held when shooting.

Several also featured a pop-up plate on the end of the case so that you can set/strap another case on top piggy back style when rolling through the airport. I’d think with 800+ rounds of ammo, this would be especially beneficial.

Sorry, I don’t recall any names. I don’t see that I picked up any brochures from these stands.

The advice that is repeated everywhere is the constant problems hunters have with airport or TSA employees illegally cutting off padlocks once the case has been checked. Apparently, there are large numbers of untrained TSA or airport employees who don’t know their own rules. Gun cases are NOT allowed to have TSA-openable locks, they must be secured by locks that only the opener can open.

Bottom line seems to be a full extra set of padlocks is a necessity in case an idiot TSA or baggage handler cuts your locks off.
