I possibly over looked any reviews that were shared this winter on Power Pro’s new line Ice Tec – nothing came up in the searches.

Anyways, I listened to the entire spiel and checked out this line at ICAST last year. Before jumping into $$$$ wrapped up on new line, I was hoping to hear any comparisons to 832. The Ice Tec’s big claim to fame is the coating to aid in reppelling water and less freeze ups.
Anyone put it through the abuse and have any thoughts on it??

I didn’t even knew that they renamed it. I still have the old blue ice line in three and four pound test lines. I bought it two maybe three years ago, when they came out with the micro line series.

Here’s a little synopsis of it back then. I still haven’t wet the line. Since my Fireline Crystal and Strength Microfuse are still working just fine.

PowerPro Ice Braid has come a long way and now available in the microline series are three and four pound test line, whereas the previous smallest available was only in a five pound test. Gone are any waxy coating that would rub off and the dry line doesn’t bleed anything at all. In addition it’s a very soft and supple line now. It’s a little goof that the ice blue line color will vary from one spool to the next. I have a nice deep blue in the 3# and a light medium sky blue in the 4# test. The one thing about the line break (knot break) is that it will just break without any kind of warning or sign of line failure. In comparing to Fireline or Sufix Ice Braid, you will feel the line begin to give at the moment of line failure. Furthermore PP varies in line strength by the speed of the stress pull. A normal moderate consistent line pull yeild a strength of about one pound less than a very slow pull. Again it something that I did not find with either Fireline or Sufix Ice Braid. While a moderately fast pull equal to a pulling against a fish, the line yeild a break strength closer to as box listed. The 4# test broke at 4# 2 oz. and 3# test broke at 3# 6 oz. I’ve split the threads and both 3 and 4 pound tests have ony three strands/carriers. Kind of odd, since I almost always thought PP would have four strands/carriers.
