Pug, you helped me determine whether a bass lure was legit or gimmick last year (LiveTarget Sunfish) and I’m requesting your help again…

A new frog lure I’ve been told about is the Livingston Lures “Freddy B.” Marketed as different from your average frog in 2 ways:

•Better hook ups (the down side of all frog style lures)
•It emits sound! This could be the gimmick part or Gamechanger. Twitch it over a high percentage spot and let it “emit a NATURAL frog sound to draw topwater strikes.”

Since you’ll have open water the next several months, would be great if you can test it out for us and help us separate fact from fiction. Happy to send you $10 or mail one for you if I end up ordering one myself!

Would it be legal in MN?

Good question – but the only legal issue I’ve ever heard of in Minnesota is multiple hooks (i.e. Alabama Rig) but nothing for sound..?

From what I read it wouldn’t be any different than a topwater with the propellers.
I didn’t see a battery involved. Batteries that contain mercury are not allowed.

Musky guy I knew made his own baby duck lures with sounds.

    How about “Lithium ion batteries?”

Hmm, I’ll have to grab one and give it a try. I’ve been catching dink bass in the dead pads right now, although I keep spooking something bigger. I don’t know what it is , but it is uninterested in the topwater or anything I throw at it. Its there about every other time I go and it makes a huge wake when spooked.

Once the pads grow back in green and the panfish move shallow I should be able to put it through its paces. That’s about when I hear the frogs calling.

Don’t know but apparently they’re using the lure on B.A.S.S. Here’s a video anyway with more explanation:

It’s a gator. You can tell because it’s tail is to big to be a cat. grin

Livingston’s big thing is these electronic baitfish noises. Their crankbaits have them as well. I don’t understand how this frog would have a better hook up ratio than others as it’s the same design as all the other hollow bodied frogs. Also the walking in place thing sounds bogus. If you’re twitching it you’re moving it forward. The only difference in my eyes is the noise. I’ve also wondered if these are illegal here. Would be interesting to test this along with a silent hollow bodied frog.
